A society relevant research programme
Autoimmune diseases are chronic conditions. They impose a substantial healthcare burden and, while treatments are available, response to treatment and disease progression are unpredictable in individual patients. It has been estimated that around 50% of systemic autoimmune disease patients do not respond to the first treatment administered. This is generating an aggravation of the disease, the exposure to undesirable side effects without therapeutic advantages and a high cost for the National Health Systems.
SIGNATURE is a Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network which aims the identification of the mechanisms of response and non-response to therapy in autoimmune diseases using single-cell technologies and advanced bioinformatics.

Research Objectives
Training a new generation of scientists
The network will train 10 Doctoral Candidates in the essential enabling technologies that are urgently needed in the field.
This will provide a unique opportunity to train new leading scientists to acquire a global view of the diseases, all with the aim of understanding the heterogeneous molecular nature of the clinical diseases and to predict the best treatment for every single patient based in the experimental evidence.
Training a new generation of scientists
A multidisciplinary consortium of experts
SIGNATURE brings together a diverse team of specialists in immunology, high-content tissue imaging, mass cytometry, single cell transcriptomics, and bioinformatics, together with SMEs that are leading industrial innovation actions in the field of personalized medicine and precise diagnosis in immunemediated diseases.
This network constitutes an outstanding platform aiming at the identification of the mechanisms of non-response to therapy in autoimmune mediated disorders using single-cell technologies and advanced bioinformatics.
